Once teams have been set up, and if you are one of the chosen, you should receive an email from the officers to let you know.  As a participant, you will work with your team to solve the engineering problem presented to us the morning of the competition.  It’s a great time to get to know some of the other ASME people and add a design project to your resume!

Women In Engineering

The spring semester’s Chili Cook off will be on Thursday, March 10th on the front lawn of Engineering Building 1.  This year ASME and SAE are teaming up to submit the best chili to compete in the chili cook off.  So we’re calling all cooks!  Do you have a great Chili recipe to represent us at the cook off?  If you don’t have a great recipe but still want to help out we’re also looking for assistants as well as cooking gear to borrow for that afternoon.  Maybe you just want to eat some Chili!  Go here and fill out this form for us by the end of the day on Wednesday February 17th!!

Out Of The Darkness Walk

Get Ready

Don’t get lost in all of your club and other extracurricular activities.  Remember you’ve really got to focus in on classes and do your best so that if you’re headed into the O&G industry you can make yourself as appealing as possible.  Especially with everything going on in the industry right now and Career Fair coming up!

Lounge Situation

The issue mentioned previously about not having access to the ASME Lounge has been resolved. The lounge will be open whenever one of the officers comes by in the mornings and opens it and will close whenever the last officer leaves for the day (usually after 7pm). The snack bar has also be fully restocked. Please use our easily accessible PayPal payment system if you don’t have cash on you. If we do not see an improvement of balancing out our funds then we will need to take action on how the snack bar is operated. Please also remember to clean up your mess after you’re done with your meal and do not keep food in the fridge for extended periods of time.

Open Committee Position

If you are looking to get involved, we have opened up a committee officer position to be the liaison for ASME to the Energy Coalition. The Energy Coalition is also involved with hosting Energy Symposiums throughout the semester and a special competition with cash prizes as well as other social events such as the tailgates for football games. Your main duty is to attend their meetings and relay information about the organization back to ASME and work with our other committees to help plan events and such.

Event Information

Please join us in W122 from 3pm to 4pm as we kick off the new year and new semester with a general meeting to discuss plans for the Spring semester and moving forward with ASME. Light food will be provided for those that attend. Points will also be given out to any registered members who attend. Some topics to be discussed will include upcoming competitions, some outreach events, and plans for the next year officers in ASME.

Engineering Career Fair

Lounge Access Issues

Just so everyone is aware, our lounge (located in W227) is having issues with the card reader for the officers to gain access. Until we resolve this issue, it is possible that the lounge may not be open on some days/times depending on if a person with access has arrived that day. So if the lounge is locked during regular hours, please bear with us until this issue is resolved. We will send another email updating when this issue is 100% resolved and until then, please continue to stop by and visit with us if it is open!

General Meetings and Info Sessions

We have a bunch of meetings and info sessions going on here at the beginning of the semester.  Our first general meeting is next week.  All of our times here are tentative due to the administrative work that needs to be completed with UH.  We will have to let you know the final locations and times for these events after the paperwork gets processed.  Keep them in mind though as you plan out your days so that you don’t miss something.

Our specific competition will be held at UT Austin on February 13th. For specifics of the competition, please refer to http://rubegoldberg.com.
