General Announcements
Welcome Back
There are a lot of fun things coming up this semester! Keep tuned to the Newsletter for information as we get it. Hopefully your break went well, back to the grind!
Cougar Football!
In case you missed it, the Cougars went 13-1 for the season and we beat No. 9 Florida State for the Peach Bowl! GO COOGS!
Open Committee Position
If you are looking to get involved, we have opened up a committee officer position to be the liaison for ASME to the Energy Coalition. The Energy Coalition is a group of various organizations focused around energy whether it be alternative or oil and gas. The Energy Coalition is also involved with hosting Energy Symposiums throughout the semester and a special competition with cash prizes as well as other social events such as the tailgates for football games. Your main duty is to attend their meetings and relay information about the organization back to ASME and work with our other committees to help plan events and such.
Lounge Access Issues
Just so everyone is aware, our lounge (located in W227) is having issues with the card reader for the officers to gain access. Until we resolve this issue, it is possible that the lounge may not be open on some days/times depending on if a person with access has arrived that day. So if the lounge is locked during regular hours, please bear with us until this issue is resolved. We will send another email updating when this issue is 100% resolved and until then, please continue to stop by and visit with us if it is open!
Event Information
General Meetings and Info Sessions
We have a bunch of meetings and info sessions going on here at the beginning of the semester. Our first general meeting is next week. All of our times here are tentative due to the administrative work that needs to be completed with UH. We will have to let you know the final locations and times for these events after the paperwork gets processed. Keep them in mind though as you plan out your days so that you don’t miss something.
Engineering Career Fair
The spring semester Engineering Career Fair will be Tuesday, February 11th from 10 am – 4 pm on the second floor of the Hilton. Hopefully you’re comfortable with the Engineering Career Fair that occurs in both Fall and Spring. Don’t forget to update your resume and econnect! If you want help reviewing your resume swing by the lounge and see if anyone is available. More information about the events that usually coincide with career fair will be sent out as we get it.
Rube Goldberg Competition
This is a last call for participants in the team to build a Rube Goldberg machine. Please only express interest if you are able and willing to commit your time and effort within the next month to get this device built. Only 3 additional spots are available on the team. Our specific competition will be held at UT Austin on February 13th. For specifics of the competition, please refer to http://rubegoldberg.com.
Sign-Ups will be cut off at 5:00pm CST today, January 20th.
