General Announcements

Extra Life, UH Cougars, and YOU

Extra Life was a great success this year, Thanks to all of you who helped and showed up to play!  That same day our UH Cougars went on to win their 9th game in a row to be 9-0!!  Now it’s your turn.  Make sure to not fall behind before Thanksgiving break so that the days off are well earned!

Extra Life!

We owe a great big thank you to everyone who came out and helped support us through gaming or donations as we raised money for Texas Children’s Hospital this year.  We originally set our goal at $1,000 and beat that goal before the event started. After everything we are currently sitting at around $1,500 raised for the charity!  Without adding in our cash donations, we are in at 599th place (top 10%!) of ALL teams. Nationally, the amount raised is over $6.3 million and locally, Texas Childrens Hospital has raised over $80,000 and is the 15th highest amount raised for a hospital. Not only did we raise more money this year, but we also had a lot more of our ASME members come out and join us!  We played a lot of video games of course, but we even had a lot of tabletop gaming too!

We will continue accepting donations all the way through Friday, November 13th. There is a cash donation box located by the lockers in the ASME lounge. Help us reach our goal of $2,000! If you wish to donate to a specific person’s account, please attach a note.

Intro to Cougar Engineering

ICE is back!  Our fall ICE event will be on Friday November 13th from 8:30am-2:00pm.  We will have around 80 total high school students from Ball and Robert Turner High Schools with us to learn a bit more about engineering.  We will need volunteers to help run the event.  Sign up HERE to help out!

ASME Social at Lucky’s Pub

This is the first time we’re doing something like this and probably a once in a college lifetime experience. We’re hosting a social event for ASME members around the world for when they come to Houston for the IMECE National Conference. Social starts at 8pm at Lucky’s Pub located off of St. Emanuel Street. Appetizers are on us! Any additional food or drinks will be on your own tab. Please come out and show the world the hospitality of the University of Houston ASME!

Marathon Info Session

Marathon Petroleum will be with us on Thursday November 19th from 7-9:00 pm.  They do both co-ops and internships and of course will hire people for full time jobs so come out and check them out to see if you want to apply for any positions they might have come Spring Career Fair.  As usual, there should be free food and a chance to network with the reps who visit.  More info on the Location will come as I get it.

Houston Food Bank

We’re tentatively going to go help out the Houston Food Bank on Saturday, November 21st.  Usually when we head out there we have a 3-4 hour shift sorting through donated food to make sure that those in need don’t get bad food/goods.  They turn on some music and split us up into tables and let us loose.  It’s a good time to hang out and talk with our ASMEcrew while doing something great for Houston.

ASME Tailgate with Energy Coalition

We will be located in spot #46 near the student entrance. Free food will be provided!  We’re going to be grouping up with the Energy Coalition to do tailgates at all of our home games.  A list of our home games can be found at the UH Cougar Football page.  Come on out and hang out with fellow engineers and cheer on our team.  The Cougars are 9-0!
