Halloween is Upon Us!
Halloween is Saturday! Have fun at the parties this weekend but be safe.
ASME Point System
Welcome to the age of the ASME Point System. Please read the informational PDF file attached to this newsletter for details on the point system. Some members have already occurred points from the previous two Info Sessions and the Blood Drive last week. You have two opportunities coming up this week for coming to the NASA Info Session on Wednesday and the Halloween social on Thursday. Details below. This point system will be discussed in full detail at the Second General Meeting. Thank you all for your cooperation with this system and please remember this will be a growing process!
Great job at the Blood Drive everyone! ASME helped get the most donors of any other partner that Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center had during October. ASME had over 40 donors and even managed to snag a couple of rare blood types. The blood donated will help 144 people who will need it! Great job everyone who donated and all of those volunteers who helped get donors!!
In order to help manage the large amount of members joining ASME in conjunction with the new methods of applying for membership, we are creating a new committee. Taking inspiration from SWE and other organizations, it was best to dedicate a person or group of persons to handle all incoming membership applications and also manage the new ASME point system. Please email us if you are interested in helping start this new committee.
NASA will join us on Wednesday, October 28th from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The meeting will be in Agnes Arnold Hall 1. ASME will be serving free pizza. If you’re interested in a career working with NASA come on out! Even if you aren’t, IT’S NASA! Come out and learn about our space program!
That’s right, THURSDAY October 29th from 7pm-Midnight there will be a pumpkin carving and movie watching night hosted by ASME in our lounge (W227). Bring some friends and wear a costume! If you missed the email last week check out this link for movie voting! We’ll stop taking suggestions on Tuesday, October 27th.
The second general meeting is coming up on Wednesday November 4th from 7-8:30pm. Once the room is finalized we’ll update you, but for now save the date. We’ll have the agenda sent out by the end of the week.
Extra-Life Gaming Marathon
Come by and help raise money to support Texas Children’s Hospital by playing video and board games for 24 hours straight! We will be playing from 5 am Saturday, November 7th through 5 am Sunday, November 8th in the ASME Lounge. We will have plenty of TVs, video game systems, PCs, and table top games to go around. Food will be provided for those who register to help raise money. If you wish to register, go to our Team Page and select join. We are “ASME at UH” and we need your help to help the kids! Last year, we were at about $700 raised, and this year we’ve hit our initial goal of $1,000! Let’s raise the bar. Please contact ASME for details or if you have any questions.
You do NOT need to register to attend! You only need to register if you want to help raise money for our team and if you want food while we’re playing. If you don’t want to participate but want to donate, just visit the Team Page and select donate!
ICE is back! Our fall ICE event will be on Friday November 13th from 8:30am-2:00pm. We will have around 80 total high school students from Ball and Robert Turner High Schools with us to learn a bit more about engineering. We will need volunteers to help run the event and be there to help out the teams if they have questions. Keep tuned for emails and updates in the newsletter for our sign ups!
ASME Tailgate with Energy Coalition
The next game for tailgating is October 31st. We will be located in spot #46 near the student entrance. Free food will be provided! ASME plans to attend around 4pm. We’re going to be grouping up with the Energy Coalition to do tailgates at all of our home games. A list of our home games can be found at the UH Cougar Football page. Come on out and hang out with fellow engineers and cheer on our team. The Cougars are 7-0!
