ASME Newsletter — 9/21

September 21, 2015

Thanks & Good Luck!
Hopefully you all had a good experience at the Career Fair and came out to have some fun with us at our dunk tank at BOS.  We had a great turn out and managed to raise almost $200 for Texas Children’s Hospital!  Thanks to everyone who came out and helped us raise so much!!  Good luck with interviews in the next month or so, but don’t let your studies slide.  If you don’t keep up with your studies you could lose out on any hard earned internship!

Committee Member Availabilities
We have some open committee member positions for this coming year. We are in need of a couple of people for the Events Committee. Your responsibility would be to help out each of the chair in planning and running the events. If you’re interested the committee position and want more information, send an email to

Info Session #1
We will be hosting FMC Technologies, Inc. for our first info session.  The session will be on Thursday, October 1st from 7-9:00 pm in the Roy G. Cullen (Bldg. 501) Room 105. FMC will be focusing on opportunities at this info session, so if you applied or wanted to apply to them then this is the info session you want to attend. FMC is also going to be giving a facility tour for our members in the Spring semester. Details on that will be provided at a later time.

Yes, there will be free food provided at the Info Sessions.

ASME Tailgate with Energy Coalition
We’re going to be grouping up with the Energy Coalition to do tailgates at some of our home games.  A list of our home games can be found at the UH Cougar Football page. The next home game that Energy Coalition is hosting is on October 8th. I know this is the same day as our info session, so feel free to attend the tailgate for a bit and then come to the info session afterwards! Come on out and hang out with fellow engineers and members of various colleges and cheer on our team.  We are 2-0 so far!

Info Session #2
LyondellBasell will be joining us for our second Info Session of the semester.  The session will be on Thursday, October 8th from 7-9:00 pm in SEC 101.  Come on out and learn about Lyondell and the opportunities they have for us!

Blood Drive
We will be taking part in a blood drive on Wednesday, October 21st.  You’ve probably seen them set up in front of the UC before and that’s where we’ll be.  The times will be coming up in the near future so stay tuned for that info.

Extra-Life Gaming Marathon
Come by and help raise money to support Texas Children’s Hospital by playing video games for 24 hours straight! Starting from 5am Saturday to 5am Sunday in the ASME Lounge. We’ll have plenty of TVs, video game systems, PCs, and table top games to go around. Food will be provided for those registered to help raise money. If you wish to register, go to theExtra Life Website and select to join the team “ASME at UH” and help us reach the goal of $1,000! Last year, we were close with just over $700 raised. I think with some more help, we can definitely make it! Please contact ASME for details and questions.

Please know that you do not have to register to attend, you only need to register if you want to raise money and help meet our goal. If you simply want to donate for the cause, visit the Team Page and select “Donate”.
